A Deeper Look into the Sound and Philosophy of BEE WING

In May 2026, we hosted BEE WING Experience – Tokyo Vol. 2, welcoming a select group of bassists and enthusiasts for an intimate hands-on event in Tokyo.

Designed as a small-group experience, the event provided attendees with the opportunity to spend extended time with the instruments, explore their sonic characteristics firsthand, and engage in direct conversations about the design philosophy behind BEE WING.

Experiencing Modern Low-End Performance

Throughout the session, participants explored the key elements that define what BEE WING describes as modern low-end performance, including:

  • The clarity, articulation, and responsiveness of the Low-B string
  • The relationship between natural acoustic resonance and BEE WING's headroom-oriented design
  • Tone shaping through the BW Custom 3-Band EQ system

Rather than simply discussing these concepts, attendees were encouraged to experience them directly through extensive playing sessions and side-by-side comparisons.

This event also welcomed several professional bassists, who joined privately and contributed valuable perspectives drawn from real-world performance environments.

Defined Low End and Natural Response

One of the most consistent themes throughout the event was the instrument's ability to deliver both clarity and responsiveness across the entire frequency range.

Participants frequently commented on the natural balance between the acoustic character of the instrument and its electronics, noting that notes retained focus and definition even with a light touch.

Several players were particularly impressed by the behavior of the Low-B string.

“The Low-B feels incredibly fast and articulate.”

Others highlighted the instrument's ability to maintain authority and presence across different pickup settings.

“Even favoring the bridge pickup, there's still plenty of power and weight behind the notes.”

Attendees also responded positively to the instrument's overall tonal character.

“The frequencies I want to feel physically are all there.”

Many participants felt that BEE WING offered a compelling alternative to more traditional bass designs.

“It's a serious alternative to a traditional J-style bass.”

The event also generated strong interest in BEE WING's short-scale models, with one participant noting that they felt fully capable of meeting professional performance requirements.

“I could easily see this being used in a professional setting, despite the shorter scale.”

These comments closely reflect the sound philosophy BEE WING has pursued from the beginning: defined low frequencies, natural response, and a direct connection between player and instrument.

Feedback from Working Musicians

The discussions were not limited to praise. Participants also shared valuable observations from a practical, performance-oriented perspective.

Several attendees mentioned that fully adapting to the instrument's control layout and tonal flexibility in a live environment might require some time, while others expressed interest in comparing the instruments within their own stage and amplification setups.

Feedback like this is invaluable as we continue refining and evolving BEE WING instruments. Insights from musicians who regularly perform in professional environments provide an important perspective that helps shape future development.

More Than an Instrument—A Design Philosophy

One of the most rewarding aspects of the event was seeing participants engage not only with the instruments themselves, but also with the ideas that inspired them.

Many attendees expressed a strong interest in understanding the reasoning behind specific design choices and hearing directly from designer Murata about his approach to instrument development.

Several participants noted that gaining insight into the philosophy behind the instruments deepened their appreciation of the overall experience.

“Hearing Murata explain the thinking behind the instrument gave me a much deeper understanding of what BEE WING is trying to achieve.”

“What impressed me most wasn't just the instrument itself, but the philosophy behind it.”

For us, this reinforced an important belief: BEE WING is about more than specifications or sound alone. It is an ongoing exploration of how instrument design can support musical expression through clarity, responsiveness, and connection between player and instrument.

Thank You
